Regarding the DVD release, extras are three deleted and pretty inconsequential deleted scenes, a 15 minute documentary looking profiling Harvey Milk, a 13 minute making of featurette, and a third looking at the recreation of the candlelight vigil but which also strays into other areas.
There are also international and UK versions of the film's trailer. Ordinarily I like to see an audio commentary on DVD releases, but maybe it was felt this film didn't need one.
All-in-all, this is a really enjoyable movie. You don't have to have gay interests to become engrossed in it, and I am glad that it is bringing the tale of Harvey Milk to a new generation, including myself.

Set in the seventies this film explores gay rights issues in San Francisco and America in general and the opposition Milk experienced to his candidacy and the issues he fought for.
With a great cast and another amazing performance from Sean Penn, this film quickly draws you in and keeps you watching until the shattering conclusion.
This also has note worthy performances from Emile Hirsh and Josh Brolin. Milk's development from Haight area hippy to vocal activist and politician is shown excellently and makes for fascinating viewing even if you aren't interested in politics or gay rights issues.
For a powerful storyline, that is all the more potent for being true, this film is well worth considering.
It is well acted, well directed and has a crushing conclusion that you will leave you speechless and affected.

Milk subsequently meets fellow Supervisor Dan White , a Vietnam veteran and former police officer and firefighter. White, who is politically and socially conservative , has a difficult relationship with Milk, and develops a growing resentment for Milk when he opposes projects that White proposes.
Milk and White forge a complex working relationship. Milk is invited to, and attends, the christening of White's first child, and White asks for Milk's assistance in preventing a psychiatric hospital from opening in White's district, possibly in exchange for White's support of Milk's citywide gay rights ordinance.
When Milk fails to support White because of the negative effect it will have on troubled youth, White feels betrayed, and ultimately becomes the sole vote against the gay rights ordinance.
Milk also launches an effort to defeat Proposition 6 , an initiative on the California state ballot in November Sponsored by John Briggs , a conservative state senator from Orange County , Proposition 6 seeks to ban gays and lesbians in addition to anyone who supports them from working in California's public schools.
